According to AAATE – the Association of the Promotion of Assistive Technology in Europe – “Assistive Technology is a term for any technology-based product or service that facilitates people with functional limitations of all ages in daily life, work and leisure.”
Building on this definition, COOSS believes that assistive technology can be an important aid to all those with disabilities, allowing them to tell what they want or need. COOSS turns its attention to people with acquired and/or congenital motor, sensory, and cognitive disabilities, their families and all services involved in educational/rehabilitation processes.
Collaborative work and networking are essential to identify the goals to be achieved and the most effective strategies to achieve them.
“Assistive Technology” aims to develop customized software and hardware aids to improve one’s autonomy and quality of life. Starting from a thorough cognitive and physical knowledge of the person it will be possible to build, through the creation of applications implemented on easily usable computer devices, aids that will allow the person to interact with the world around him or her.
The software consists of development areas, in turn composed of navigation pages and functions, which correspond to the possible web links external to the application (youtube, television channels, radio channels, audiobooks, etc.).
The Ausilioteca in Fermo represents COOSS’ pilot project in the field of Assistive Technology. The facility has a permanent display of aids in which it is possible to try them out directly. The aids are available to the interested parties to check their real usefulness before proceeding to a possible purchase. The choice and use of the aids will be carefully evaluated by the team of experts.
COOSS is able to guarantee follow-ups (periodic checks) of the provided software, maintenance for one year and training in the use of the purchased software.
At the COOSS Ausilioteca in Fermo you can make an appointment to obtain:
- Orientation
- Counseling
- Personalized assessments to identify the appropriate aids for specific needs.
The activities that can be carried out at the Ausilioteca in Fermo are:
- access for cognitive stimulation
- assessments for software development
- ad hoc rehabilitation paths.
It is also possible to take out:
- a subscription to access the application online and carry out stimulation and rehabilitation exercises from your home through the delivery of a username and password.
